Editorial Board Structure and Policy for the Journal of Philippine Island Universities (JPIU)

  1. Editorial Board Composition The JPIU Editorial Board shall consist of:
    • Editor-in-Chief
    • Managing Editor
    • Associate Editors (National and International)
    • Technical Editor (for layout, metadata, and formatting)
    • Ethics Officer (to oversee publication integrity and resolve conflicts)
    • Text Editors
    • Editorial Consultant 

All board members must have an active academic profile (e.g., ORCID, Scopus ID, or Google Scholar) and a strong publication record.

  1. Peer Review Policy JPIU follows a rigorous double-blind peer review process:
    • Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two referees with expertise in the field.
    • Referees are required to disclose any potential conflicts of interest.
    • The identities of both authors and reviewers are kept confidential throughout.
    • Reviewers must evaluate manuscripts based on originality, methodology, clarity, significance, and ethical compliance.
    • The review period is a maximum of four weeks. Extensions are granted upon request.
  1. Editorial Workflow
    1. Submissions may be received through the official online portal or via email at jpiu@bipsu.edu.ph 
    2. Initial screening by the Managing Editor, including checks for formatting compliance, originality, and plagiarism.
    3. Assignment to Associate Editor
    4. Reviewer invitation and review phase
    5. Editorial decision (accept, revise, reject)
    6. Final formatting and technical checks
    7. Online publication with DOI assignment
  1. Ethics and Integrity
    • JPIU adopts COPE guidelines for ethical publishing.
    • All submitted manuscripts are screened for plagiarism using Turnitin, Grammarly, or other licensed detection tools.
    • Ethical clearance documents are mandatory for research involving human or animal subjects.
    • Conflicts of interest must be disclosed by authors, reviewers, and editors.
    • Complaints and misconduct are handled by the Ethics Officer with due process.
  1. Open Access and Licensing
    • JPIU is an open access journal that ensures all published articles are freely and immediately available to readers worldwide.
    • Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) license.
    • Authors retain copyright but grant JPIU the right to first publication.
  1. Scopus Indexing Compliance To ensure eligibility for Scopus indexing, JPIU commits to:
    • Maintaining an international editorial board
    • Publishing articles with regional/global significance
    • Providing clear author guidelines and ethical standards
    • Issuing Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) for each article
    • Ensuring metadata compliance with indexing databases
    • Transparent peer review policies publicly accessible online
